How to Get the Most from Your Session

Guidelines for a Supportive Experience at The Vent Garden

Setting the Scene

Your listener will begin each session with a warm introduction and help set a comfortable tone. These guidelines are here to help you feel prepared and supported, so you can make the most of your time.

Before Your Session

Bring what’s on your mind: You’re welcome to talk about anything, work, relationships, family, friends, life changes, the season (Christmas, New Year), identity, money worries, health concerns, or whatever feels important to you.

Not sure what to say? That’s completely okay. Sometimes just holding space for yourself is enough. We’ll support you, even if you’re not sure where to start.

Prefer a nickname? Let us know at the start of your session if you’d like to be called by a nickname.

During Your Session

Arrive on time: Please join at your scheduled time. If you’re more than 10 minutes late, your session will be cancelled, and the fee is non-refundable.

Session timing: You’ll get a gentle reminder five minutes before the end. Sessions finish at the scheduled time to respect everyone’s appointments.

Choose your space: Find a quiet, private spot where you can talk freely and hear clearly.

Stay present: For your wellbeing, please do not attend under the influence of alcohol or drugs. We may end the session if this is suspected.

Language & Expression

Be yourself: You’re welcome to express strong feelings—even with colourful language—if that helps you release what’s on your mind.

Respectful boundaries: Please don’t direct abusive or offensive language at your listener. Our aim is to support, not to be harmed. If boundaries are crossed, the listener reserves the right to end the session.

Scope & Safety

Not a crisis service: The Vent Garden is a space for reflection and support, not for urgent or clinical needs. If you’re in distress or need immediate help, please reach out to a mental health professional or crisis service. Details of these are set out in the t&cs.

A Gentle Reminder

These guidelines are here to help you get the most from your session and to keep The Vent Garden a safe, welcoming space for all.

Full terms and conditions are available at booking. If you have questions, just ask—we’re here to help.
