Welcome to the Vent Garden
Redundancy changes more than your job. It can change how you see yourself.
When redundancy happens, the conversation often focuses on practicalities, and the process of it all, almost mechanically. Consultation meetings, CVs applications and finding the all important next role.
What if that is not what you want? What if you still need time to process what has happened, find your feet and give yourself the opportunity to make a different choice.
Very little attention is given to the emotional rollercoaster of redundancy and that there is in fact a human being on the other side of the process.
You
Don't
Have to
Rush forward
Redundancy can make it feel as though you have to have everything figured out immediately.
The Vent Garden offers something different.
A chance to slow down, make sense of what’s happened and move forward at your own pace.
Here, you’ll find the time and support to reflect, regain perspective and take your next step with intention rather than urgency.
Confidence
Grows
Here
Redundancy can leave you questioning your abilities, even though your skills and experience haven’t disappeared.
At the Vent Garden we focus on helping you reconnect with your strengths, rebuild your confidence and remember that your value has never been defined by a job title.
One conversation.
One step.
One decision at a time
Your next chapter starts here
There is no single way to experience redundancy. Everyone will have a different experience. Equally there is no single path forward.
Whether you’re ready to explore new opportunities or simply need a space and time to make sense of what has happened and where you go to from here, The Vent Garden is here to support you through every stage of the journey.
Your space to talk starts here.
What we value at the Vent garden
“Trust”
We listen with honesty, empathy, and respect. Discretion and trust sit at the heart of everything we do, creating a dependable space where conversations can unfold naturally and with confidence.
“Compassion”
We meet every story with care and understanding. Every conversation is rooted in empathy, as a reminder that kindness can bring quiet but powerful change.
“Clarity”
We help you find space to think. In a world full of noise, The Vent Garden offers calm, perspective, and a clearer view of what matters most for you.
“Authenticity”
We believe in honest, human conversation. There’s no script, no performance, just space to speak freely and be yourself.
“Presence”
We listen without agenda or interruption. Our focus is on being fully present, creating moments of genuine connection where you can speak freely and feel truly heard.
“People-First”
We are led by people, not process. Every interaction reflects a simple truth: being heard is a human need, and real connection begins with conversation.
Every conversation is an opportunity to rebuild confidence, rediscover your strengths and take the next step forward.
My story…
The Founder
The Vent Garden wasn't created from a business idea.
It was created from lived experience.
I've been made redundant four times.
Each redundancy arrived at a completely different chapter of my life, and each one affected me differently.
The first came after returning from a long-term illness. I had worked incredibly hard to rebuild my confidence and return to work, only to discover that my role had changed. A few months later, I was made redundant. It knocked my confidence, my identity and my belief in myself.
The second happened while I was on maternity leave. Instead of enjoying those precious early months with my son, I found myself trying to understand consultation meetings, business decisions and an uncertain future. Looking back, I accepted the redundancy before I'd really had the chance to process it.
The third was the hardest in a different way.
By then, I was working in HR. I'd been the person delivering difficult conversations to others, so when redundancy became part of my own story, it felt deeply personal. I left feeling angry, betrayed and questioning the organisation I'd once believed in.
When redundancy happened for a fourth time, my first reaction wasn't sadness.
It was, "I've done this before."
I thought I knew exactly how to handle it.
But what I eventually realised was that I had become numb to something that should never feel normal.
Those experiences taught me something important. There isn't one way to experience redundancy.
Sometimes it's grief.
Sometimes it's relief.
Sometimes it's anger.
Sometimes it's fear.
Sometimes it doesn't hit you until weeks later.
No matter how it shows up, your experience is valid.
As both someone who has lived through redundancy and someone who has worked in HR supporting others through it, I've seen both sides of the process.
I've seen how organisations often focus on the logistics.
I've seen how quickly people are expected to move on.
And I've seen how little space there is to talk about what redundancy actually feels like.
That's why I created The Vent Garden.
Not just to help people find another job.
But to help them rebuild confidence, process what has happened, reconnect with who they are beyond their job title, and realise they don't have to go through it alone.
Because redundancy should never define your worth.
And losing your job should never mean losing yourself.
